In India getting into medical college is a tough job & those cracking the entrance exam are on top of the world. Competition is very tough as there are limited number of seats (approximately 40,000) compared to vast number of aspirants (7 lakh students appear overall).
In private medical colleges seats are on sale under management quota. These may cost a lot of money not possible for everyone. Most private medical colleges take thier own entrance exams. It also creates a uphill task for students & parents to apply for so many entrance exams. Pvt. medical colleges fee range from 6-10lakh per annum, Its also pain in the ass considering 5 1/2 half long course of MBBS.
AIIMS, JIPMER, BHU, MAMC, CMC, AMU are top on list of best medical college in india. AIIMS takes its own entrace exam on 1st june every year. Aiims Delh, Patna,Bhubaneshwar, Bohpal, Jodhpur, Raipur & Rishikesh are part of it. 72 seats are available in Aiims Delhi & 100 seats each in remaining. Competion is tough as success ratio is less & paper difficulty level is too high.
Jipmer also takes its on exam every year. Question Pattern differ from aiims exam but difficulty level is almost same.
AIPMT is a national level entrance exam conducted by CBSE. 15% of the all india quota is filled through this exam. Other participating state/institutions include HARYANA, HIMACHAL PRADESH, MADHYA PRADESH, ANDMAND & NICOBAR, ARUNACHAL PRADESH, MANIPUR, MEGHALYA, ORRISA, RAJSTHAN, CHANDIGARH, DELHI UNIVERSITY, AFMC, BHU, JAMIA HAMDARD. Competition is tough, questions are asked mostly from NCERT Textbooks. Counselling is done by medical counselling committee.
States not participating in AIPMT conducts their own entrance exam & follows state syllabus.
